Shaft seal - b2

Shaft seals are generally fitted to push rods or shafts in apparatus and machine housings to seal them against the direct environment.

Rotary shaft seals (standard design) are installed in the housing / housing cover (fixed fit). Their sealing lip runs on the surface of the rotating shaft (usually by means of contact pressure from a worm spring).

Application criteria
The media to be sealed, pressure, vibrations, temperature, circumferential speed, external contamination, internal contamination, etc. as well as the definition of the corresponding design or profile play a decisive role in determining the optimum shaft seal. In the event of pressure differences, care must be taken to ensure that the open side of the sealing ring is exposed to the area with higher pressure to prevent malfunctions.

Application examples:
Drives, construction machinery, chemical industry, electric motors, gearboxes, hydraulic units, compressors, food industry, motors, heavy industry, etc.

Materials
ACM (polyacrylate elastomer), FKM (fluorine elastomer), HNBR (hydrogenated NBR elastomer), NBR (nitrile-butadiene elastomer), PTFE (polyetrafluoroethylene) are used in particular for shaft seals.
