A customer approached us with a request to look into their problem with a leaking mechanical seal. The plant is located in the Far East, and experts on site suspected that the mechanical seal was not the actual problem, but rather that the bearing assembly was the cause.

Ihb Service was invited by the plant manufacturer to take a closer look at the matter and, in consultation with SKF Engineering and other service partners in the manufacturing sector, subsequently presented the customer with a new proposal for such a bearing assembly.

Weighing around 500 kg, this unit was quickly built on site, stored, preloaded, and supplied with sufficient oil to ensure that it would survive not only transport but also the storage period until commissioning.

The agitator with the newly designed bearing unit was then successfully put into operation about a year later and has been running without further failures ever since.
