Bellows are elastic hoses made of leather, rubber or plastic that fold together in an “accordion-like” manner and primarily perform a protective function for machine parts that move mechanically into one another.

A bellows can also be used to ventilate or cool two moving machine parts (must therefore be ventilated). They are also used on all types of machines to protect guideways (linear guides) and spindles.

Another typical application for bellows is in the area of telescopic cables in the 2-wheel industry or, for example, as an additional connecting element in the railroad or tramway segment.

Metallic bellows (thin-walled) with rounded shafts are used as compensation elements in pressure vessel and pipeline construction.

Hermetic sealing of moving valve components against stationary components is used in the chemical industry in particular.
