Flat gaskets are static gaskets and are mainly used between two flanges in apparatus engineering or pipeline construction, for example.

Application criteria
Chemical stress, pressures, fluids, temperatures, ... 

Materials
Aramid fiber, elastomers, carbon fiber, copper, metal, mineral fiber, compressed fibers,... 

Jacketed flat gaskets
Jacketed flat gaskets have a core material/flat gasket material which is usually encased in a PTFE or metal shell. Put simply, the sheath acts as protection against the medium, while the core only has a supporting function. 

Flexible metal seals
Flexible metal gaskets are either mounted in a groove in a flange or in conjunction with support rings.

Solid metal gaskets
Solid metal gaskets are used for higher stresses (e.g. chemical stresses) and are usually made of stainless steel, nickel, steel, titanium, etc.
