Oil level gauges

Oil bath lubrication

A simple oil bath is sufficient for many applications. When the unit is at a standstill, the oil level should be approximately at the center of the lowest rolling element.
The measurement for this height is specified in the product data.

At high speeds, the oil level should be slightly lower to reduce splashing and spray losses – approximately 3 mm above the edge of the outer ring raceway of the bearing.
The oil level must be monitored with an oil sight glass. The oil sight glass can be screwed into one of the outlet holes in the lower part of the housing.

During installation, the oil level should be marked on the glass when the unit is at a standstill. Immediately after start-up, the oil level should also be marked during operation.
Depending on the bearing type, speed, and direction of rotation, the oil level during operation will be above or below the oil level when the unit is at a standstill.
